Lichfield opticians spreads Christmas cheer with toy donation
The Specsavers store in Lichfield, which is locally owned and run, has been collecting donations for the Salvation Army Christmas Gift Appeal and Elaine’s Toy & Gift Appeal, a locally run initiative led by Elaine Hutchings. Both charities provide toys and gifts to children and families who might otherwise go without at Christmas.
Staff and customers have generously donated a wide range of items, filling three large boxes and several gift bags. The team handed over donations to the Salvation Army on Wednesday 10 December, with a second handover on Friday 12 December for Elaine’s Toy & Gift Appeal at the Lichfield donation station.
"We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of our customers and team," says Praful Patel, Specsavers Lichfield store director. ‘Christmas can be a difficult time for many families, so supporting these appeals is a small way we can help make a difference in our community. It’s fantastic to see everyone come together to spread some festive joy."
Praful adds: "Community initiatives like these are so important, and we’re proud to play our part. We’d like to thank everyone who donated, your kindness will have a real impact on local families this Christmas."

The Salvation Army is a worldwide Christian charity dedicated to offering practical support and care to people in need. In the UK, it provides vital services including food banks, homelessness support, and community initiatives. Its annual Christmas Gift Appeal helps ensure that vulnerable children and families receive presents and essentials during the festive season.
