Children at Russell’s Hall Hospital benefit from Saleem Foundation toy donation
The Saleem Foundation is now in its sixth year and is a registered charity founded by Shaz Saleem in honour of his late grandfather, Al-Haj Master Mohammad Saleem, who passed away in 2016.
A request was made to the Saleem Foundation by the lead nurse of the Children’s outpatients ward, Kerry Horton for a donation of toys.
High Sheriff Award winner Shaz Saleem said: "I had the pleasure visiting the ward and meeting the amazing staff including Kelly Franklin and Krista Ralph. The ward helps so many people especially our children.
"My son, Ali, was treated at this ward 15 years ago, when he had a heart murmur and required an ASD patch. The staff were incredible and looked after him well supporting him to make a good recovery.
"So when this request came in, there was no way I could say no.
"On behalf of the Saleem Foundation we have donated over 50 toys."
Kerry said: "We have a lot of regular patients who have life long health conditions that requires them to attend the children's outpatients department quite frequently, it would be lovely to be able to give our children presents.

"Providing presents during visits to the children’s OPD can significantly improve the emotional well-being of children with lifelong health conditions. Gifts help reduce anxiety and fear associated with hospital visits by offering comfort, distraction, and a sense of joy. They create positive associations with medical care, make children feel valued and supported, and acknowledge their resilience in managing ongoing treatment. As a result, children are often more relaxed, happier, and better able to cope with clinic visits.
"We thank Shaz and the foundation for their very kind donation."
Alderman Steve Waltho MBE, Chairman said: "In the past three weeks alone, The Saleem Foundation has donated over 1,100 items of toys and chocolates, supporting our community. This is an incredible amount and the gratitude shown has been overwhelming.
"We thank you all for supporting us and we wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
"The Saleem Foundation, changing lives, building hope!"
