Mayor launches Grand Charity Raffle as Wolverhampton marks 25 years as a city
Wolverhampton has marked a major milestone as the Mayor led a civic celebration to commemorate 25 years since the city was granted its official status.
The anniversary was honoured with a flag‑raising ceremony on Thursday outside the Civic Centre, where councillors, MPs and community representatives gathered to reflect on a quarter‑century of progress, pride and local achievement.
As part of the celebrations, the Mayor officially launched his Grand Charity Raffle, a major fundraising initiative designed to support the good causes he is raising money for throughout his year in office.
The raffle offers residents the chance to win £1,000 cash and all money raised will contribute directly to Compton Care, Acorns Children's Hospice, SSAFA - the armed forces charity and the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity.
The raffle has been kindly sponsored by local businesses Staff Today and the Mount Hotel.
Speaking at the launch, the Mayor highlighted the importance of community spirit in shaping the city’s identity over the past 25 years.
He added: "The raffle is an opportunity for residents to come together once again—this time to support organisations that provide vital services to people across Wolverhampton."
Tickets, costing £5 each are available now, and all proceeds will go towards the Mayor’s chosen charities for the year.
