Walsall care home spreads Christmas cheer to children at local hospital
Residents and staff from a Walsall care home have been spreading festive cheer this Christmas by donating a selection of toys to children receiving care at Walsall Manor Hospital.
Earlier this month, the group - hailing from Wyrley Rose, part of the Macc Care Group - visited the hospital’s children’s ward to deliver the donations and spend time with young patients. The visit formed part of the home’s wider commitment to supporting the local community and creating meaningful intergenerational connections.
Residents and staff embraced the festive spirit for the occasion, wearing Christmas jumpers, Santa hats and novelty glasses, with some dressing up as seasonal characters. The group shared gifts, conversation and laughter with the children, helping to bring moments of joy during what can be a challenging time of year.
One resident of Wyrley Rose, Joan Hunter, 84, who dressed as an elf for the visit, said: “I was honoured to visit the hospital to deliver gifts to the children's ward. I gave birth to my daughter there, so this hospital has very special memories for me.”

Bhav Amlani, Director of Macc Care Group, added: “Spending time with the children at Walsall Manor Hospital has been a very special experience for both our residents and staff. It gave our residents a real sense of purpose and reminded us all of the importance of connection and kindness at this time of year. Building strong links with our local community is central to our values, and this visit was a meaningful way to reflect that. We were delighted to see the positive impact it had and hope to visit again in the future.”
