School spreads festive cheer with Christmas buffet for pensioners

A Birmingham school has hosted local people for a festive Christmas party, with learners delivering a free festive Christmas buffet for over 30 visitors, school staff and learners.

Year 10 Learners from Cockshut Hill School, part of the Summit Learning Trust, meticulously planned and delivered a complex Christmas meal for their visitors.

Mr Brian Miles, a long-standing attendee and spokesperson for the guests, shared his admiration:  “I was blown away by the complexity and quality of the buffet. The learners engaged with us so warmly and served like true professionals - it was an absolute joy to experience.”

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the school choir entertained guests with a selection of seasonal favourites under the direction of Performing Arts teacher Miss Crutchley. Their performance brought smiles and sing-alongs, creating a truly magical community moment.

Among the talented learners were Roxy and Porscha, both in Year 10, who played a key role in creating the festive delights. Roxy commented: “It was exciting to put our skills into practice and see everyone enjoying what we made.”

 Porscha added: “We worked hard as a team, and it felt amazing to make something special for the community.”

Principal of Cockshut Hill School, Jody Clarke, praised the learners’ efforts: “This event reflects the heart of Cockshut Hill School—community, creativity, and excellence. Our Year 10 learners demonstrated not only technical skill but also professionalism and care. We couldn’t be prouder.”

The festive party was more than a celebration; it was a testament to the school’s commitment to practical learning and community engagement. Guests left with full hearts and plates, already looking forward to next year’s event.
