Optical team sets sights on festive fundraising
An optical home visits team has been spreading festive cheer while raising money for Alzheimer’s Society’s annual Elf Day (December 3).
The Specsavers Home Visits team, based in Birmingham and covering Shropshire and Staffordshire, has been getting into the Christmas spirit with a series of fun activities, including dressing up as elves, hosting a bake sale, and running a ‘guess the mileage’ competition for customers; similar to a sweepstake, a range of different mileage numbers were displayed and customers were invited to guess how many miles the team travelled in a week, with a Christmas hamper up for grabs for the winner.
The team have raised a total of £260 for Alzheimer’s Society and the winner of the festive hamper was Mr & Mrs Glover, who have received their prize.

"Elf Day is a fantastic way to bring some festive fun while supporting an important cause," says Michelle Maddox, customer service director at Specsavers Home Visits. "Alzheimer’s Society does incredible work for people living with dementia and their families, and we’re proud to play our part. Our team have loved getting involved and we’re so grateful to everyone who has donated.
"For many people living with dementia, attending an appointment in-store can be challenging, which is why our home visits service is so important. It means customers can receive essential eye care in the comfort and familiarity of their own home, reducing stress and ensuring they get the support they need to maintain their vision."
Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity, providing support for people living with dementia and their families, campaigning for change, and funding groundbreaking research into care, treatment and prevention. Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia, and one in three people born today will go on to develop the condition in their lifetime.

Elf Day is a festive fundraising campaign run by Alzheimer’s Society to raise awareness and vital funds. Each December, people across the UK dress up as elves, host bake sales, and take part in fun activities to support those affected by dementia and help create a future without the disease.
Specsavers’ home eye tests are available to people who are unable to leave their home unaccompanied due to a physical or mental illness, or disability.
