Before the meal started the management and staff at The Lodge, Wellington Road, Dudley were invited to join members in order to thank them for serving their delicious food so efficiently throughout 2025.

Then followed the speaker Mr John Butterworth, a retired journalist, who had travelled extensively for his job and spent a lifetime raising money for charity, resulting in him receiving an MBE in 2007. His longest journey was driving 8,500 miles to deliver a land rover car to a leprosy hospital in Nepal where he stayed on for two months to help. He had been involved with many famous people over the years, such as Kenneth Williams, Michael Ball, Anika Rice, Paul Daniels and Nick Owen to mention but a few, during his remarkable life of raising funds to help others.
