Awards bring humanitarian recognition to Wolverhampton

The inaugural We Care Awards Wolverhampton were proudly held on Saturday, 6 December, at the Park Hall Hotel and Spa, Wolverhampton, marking a significant milestone for international humanitarian organisation We Care for Humanity (WCH) as it brought its flagship awards programme to the city for the very first time.

Delivered in partnership with the Elias Mattu Foundation, and with ROHU as official media and marketing partner, the awards evening recognised outstanding individuals and organisations whose commitment, service and leadership have made a lasting impact on communities across Wolverhampton and the wider West Midlands.

The ceremony was hosted by Tyrone Johnson, a proud Wulfrunian, together with the We Care for Humanity Regional Team, led by Interim Regional Director Mrs Balbir Seimar BEM, and welcomed a distinguished audience of civic leaders, community champions and guests from across the region.

The evening was honoured by the presence of Her Royal Highness Maha Putri Maria Amor Leonora Torres Mastura, of the Royal House of Luzon-Tagalog, within the Sovereignty of the Sultanate of Maguindanao, Founder of We Care for Humanity, whose vision and leadership continue to guide the organisation’s global humanitarian mission.

Local and national dignitaries in attendance included Chief Inspector Adhnan Afzal of West Midlands Police, Councillor Paul Singh, Deputy Mayor of Wolverhampton, Warinder Juss MP, Former Mayor Councillor Tersaim Singh (Blakenhall), Councillor Asha Mattu (Graiseley) and Councillor Sally Green (Blakenhall), reflecting the strong civic and cross-sector support for the initiative.

During the awards ceremony, Datu Jordan Nirankari-Bowen, Royal Envoy for Communications and Royal Legal Counsel, presented honours to individuals whose work exemplifies service, advocacy and community leadership:

  • Miss Jyoti Chumber – We Care Legal Voice Award

  • Mr Andrew Scragg – We Care Youth Services Award

  • Mr Stuart Pearce – Veterans Voice Award

  • Mrs Sangeet Wyllie – We Care Woman of the Year 2025

  • Mrs Neena Julka – We Care Education Champion 2025

In addition, the We Care Award for Excellence – Community Partner was presented to Penn Road McDonald’s, represented by Mr Ash Raju, The Park Hall Hotel and Spa, represented by proprietor Ms Angela Bir and Namaste Wolverhampton, represented by Mr Bishnu Lamichhane, in recognition of their sustained contributions to local community initiatives and social impact programmes.

Speaking on the significance of the evening, representatives of We Care for Humanity noted that the Wolverhampton edition of the awards reflects the organisation’s commitment to recognising grassroots leadership and fostering collaboration between communities, institutions and civic leaders at a local and international level.

The We Care Awards Wolverhampton 2025 stand as the first edition of what is intended to become an annual celebration of compassion, service and excellence in the city—placing Wolverhampton firmly on the international We Care for Humanity map.
