Festive fun at the Cannock & District Ladies Probus Club Christmas party
Entertainment for the Christmas party was a varied mix of comedy and vocals by local performer David StJohn, who started out as a 10-year old rock 'n' roll singer, in his home town of Southampton.
After 10 years as lead singer, his solo career took him all over the UK and abroad but also acting and something he is most proud of is, a Guinness World Record holder, for being on 34 quiz programmes. Shows include Sale of The Century, Opportunity Knocks and The Chase. Being part of a team and flying to Australia as a finalist, he always took part for fun but found himself on that occasion, sitting on the plane next to Judith Keppel, an acclaimed contestant on Eggheads, who was studying earnestly.
His experience from Warners, Butlins, clubs, hotels, cruises and TV appearances, gives him laidback confidence to provide a relaxed atmosphere. Interacting with his audience clean, seasonal jokes are shared, together with the music of Christmas. Tunes by Elvis, of Blue Christmas and Winter Wonderland, meant every word was familiar and a sing-a-long started the party mood.

Paul of the Cannock Chase Golf Club, together with his staff, who had dressed the room beautifully, served Christmas fair to members of Cannock and District Ladies Probus Club. His contribution was, wonderful baubles for the Christmas tree, once members had coloured them with their chosen colours. Christmas jumpers were the ‘dress’ of the day and the Christmas festivities were started by the singalong, accompanied by a little dancing to familiar tunes. Cards and hugs were shared, as members look forward to the month ahead.

Pam Clarke a founder member, after attending for 32 years, thanked the Club for many years of enjoyment and pleasure with friends but reluctantly announced, this would be her final meeting because presently travel was too challenging. Chairman Anne closed asking everyone to: “Embrace kindness, by being a rainbow in someone's cloud, remember that challenges strengthen you, and aim for progress, not perfection in your daily efforts” in her ‘Thought for the Day.’

Retired or semi-retired, professional or business ladies meet on the first Thursday each month at Chase Golf Club, 12 noon, for a meal, fellowship and speakers with outings and other activities. New members are welcome: Annual membership is only £16 and two course lunch £22. Further information contact Membership Secretary, Barbara on 07801 370935 or Chairman Anne 01922 418037.
Entertainment will be intriguing, on January 8 with Ruth Graham... ‘I’m a Celebrant - Get Me Out of Here!’
