The late June Collins, a long-standing Councillor for Wollaston and Stourbridge Town, campaigned relentlessly to get a yellow box installed at junction of Duncombe Street and Bridgnorth Road. June hailed her success in securing a yellow box in her ‘Focus’ newsletter printed in January 2005.

Now, two decades later and the hatch markings on the yellow junction have faded to the point where they are almost invisible. Having been made aware of the issue by residents, current Wollaston and Stourbridge Town Councillor Andrew Tromans reported the defect to Dudley Council who have refused to act.

June’s son, Dr Paul Collins, has welcomed efforts to have the lines repainted. He said: - ‘These yellow lines may have faded but the need for this box junction is as strong today as it was 20 years ago when my mother campaigned successfully for them to be added. Parked cars along Bridgnorth Road reduce visibility for those existing Duncombe Street and, at least when traffic is heavy, having a box junction there gives people a chance to turn on to the main road safely’.

According to CrashMap there was a serious collision involving three vehicles and resulting in one casualty near the junction of Duncombe Street and Bridgnorth Road on 27th January 2024.

Former Wollaston and Stourbridge Town Councillor, Lois Bramall said: “I had the pleasure of working closely with June on the council and recall fondly her amazing efforts on behalf of the community. It is a disgrace that Dudley Council will not oblige a simple request to repaint the hatch markings. My colleagues and I are not prepared to see June’s legacy erased.”
