Lichfield care home resident shares Christmas memories – and where to get the best Christmas PJs!
As Christmas approaches, 78-year-old Rae Fry from Stowe Mount care home in Lichfield is sharing treasured memories of her childhood Christmases – and where to get the perfect set of festive pyjamas.
Rae describes Christmases growing up in a busy household with two brothers as ‘messy but homely’. Her mother, who had longed to have children, did her best to give the family everything they wanted.
Rae said: “We didn’t have much, but we always had food, music, and quality time together. My parents were both good cooks and made a huge chicken for Christmas dinner, and my mum would always make ginger cake, which was my favourite.”
As well as carol singing and attending church services, Rae’s family made it a tradition to visit their neighbours each year, but the one tradition that Rae continues to this day is buying herself a new set of Christmas pyjamas.
Rae said: “My favourite place to buy my annual Christmas pyjamas is M&S, you can’t go wrong there!”

These days, Rae most looks forward to her family and closest friends visiting her at Stowe Mount and has been taking part in the home’s Random Acts of Kindness in the community.
Most recently, Rae accompanied team members to hand deliver selection boxes to Scotch Orchard Primary School’s PTA fundraisers.
Rae’s message for others during the holiday season is simple: “Always be kind to people. You never know what they’ve been through in their lifetime.”
You can join Rae and the other residents at Stowe Mount for a special Christmas Service on Thursday, December 11, at 10am. All are welcome to enjoy hymns and carols, poetry from local school children, and festive refreshments.
