Former Walsall war nurse celebrates 100th birthday

A former second world war nurse from Aldridge celebrated her 100th birthday last week surrounded by two dozen relatives.

Joan Dabbs, from Aldridge, met her husband, Charles Dabbs, while treating him during World War Two.

Her brother in law, William 'Billy' Dabbs, died in battle during World War Two. William Dabbs was Charles Dabbs' brother. Charles Dabbs passed away more than 20 years ago.

Mrs Dabbs worked as a career post woman for much her life after the war.

Family from across the world, including Finland and America, came together to celebrate Mrs Dabbs 100th birthday at Fairlawns Hotel and Spa over a buffet style meal on Sunday, November 30.

Mrs Dabbs officially turned 100 on Monday, December 1.
