The leaking state of the pitched roof and the lack of any insulation on the flat area meant that action was badly needed. Now, with a grant of £78,000 from The Community Fund of The National Lottery, both roofs are waterproof and insulated. Those involved are very grateful to The National Lottery for their generous involvement.

Leigh Ingham, MP for Stafford comments: “It’s brilliant to see Stafford North End Community Association completing this major renovation. A safe, dry, and warm building means local people can keep coming together for the activities that make such a difference to our community. Securing funding for this work was a real achievement and shows just how hard the team works to keep the centre thriving. I’m delighted to celebrate this progress with everyone involved. Thanks!"

The improvement comes after a successful grant application in 2023 to the Community Environment Fund of HS2, prior to the cancellation of the Northern Leg which would have skirted the northern side of the town. Their grant of £24,000 enabled the creation of a new accessible toilet which improved facilities and led to an increase in bookings and a sustained high occupancy rate. The centre plays host to a wide variety of community activities which help to improve social cohesion and well-being in the locality.

This has been an exciting time at the centre with other improvements funded from the centre’s own savings such as new emergency exit doors and a new floor in the second room. The Management Committee are pleased that their hard work has led to this dynamic progress and they invite other volunteers to join them on their journey to make further essential improvements at the centre which is at the heart of the local community.

“This is more than just a roof! It'll offer the centre a new lease of life.”
