Stafford opticians supports Lions Club initiative to protect children’s sight
Colleagues at an opticians in Stafford have donated £338 to the Stafford Lions Club to help fund vital vision screening for local schoolchildren.
The Specsavers store, which is locally owned and run, has made the donation to help the Lions screening programme, which uses specialist equipment to check for potential sight issues in children aged 4-5. The quick, non-invasive scan takes around 30 seconds and parents/carers of children screened will receive a letter confirming whether the child’s scan is normal, or if further checks by an optician are necessary.
The Lions Club has already screened 833 children across 39 local schools in the area with around 8% of children referred for additional care. Alongside a one-off donation, the Specsavers team are also donating £1 for every In Moment (customer satisfaction survey) they receive.
"We’re delighted to support the Stafford Lions Club," says Specsavers Stafford store director, Satinder Mahal. "Early detection of sight issues is so important, and this initiative ensures children get the help they need as soon as possible. We’re proud to play a part in that."
The screening programme aims to give every child the best start by identifying vision problems early, reducing the risk of long-term issues and supporting learning and development.
"We’re extremely grateful to Specsavers Stafford for their generous donation," adds Dave Lewis, Vision Screening Leader at Stafford Lions Club. "The screening programme is entirely volunteer-led, so support like this helps us maintain and expand the service. Our goal is to ensure every child has the best chance to succeed at school without undetected vision problems holding them back."
