Charity welcomes MP for Disability to its national Sight Village Exhibition

Sight Village is a series of touring exhibitions across the UK supporting people with varying sight loss.

Sight Village is one of Birmingham based Queen Alexandra Charity’s enterprises.

The charity now supports young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities through Education, Residential and Community Services but it’s roots can be traced back to 1847 when its work was with the blind and visually impaired (VI) community. The work carried out over the years in this area has led to the charity being best placed to use its knowledge and connections to run a variety of enterprises that not only support the VI community but whose profits are then put into the charity. Sight Village is one of those enterprises and has been serving the VI community for over 30 years.

Sight Village’s latest exhibition was held in London last month and attracted the interest of Rt Hon Sir Stephen Timms MP, Minister for Social Security and Disability who was welcomed to the event by Principal and Chief Executive of QAC, Bev Jessop. Here’s what Minister Timms had to say. “My visit to Sight Village has shown me again that it is Assistive and Accessible Technology that is key to enabling independence, greater inclusion and participation for disabled people. We are committed to increasing awareness of existing assistive technologies and exploring ways to build capacity and digital skills, to create opportunities for disabled people in all areas of life.”

Jagdeep Soor, Managing Director of QAC Enterprises commented: “We were delighted to welcome Minister Timms to our Sight Village event in London.Sight Village is just one of our enterprises whose profits support the charity. The others are All Fomats (large format print, braille, audio etc), carbon fibre canes and room hire. Money from our Enterprises in addition to our Fundraising is what bolsters our work and enables us to support our young students and clients in the best possible way we can.
