Local singer-songwriter releases Christmas song in support of local hospice
The Mary Stevens Hospice is proud to announce the release of a brand-new Christmas song written especially for the hospice by local singer-songwriter Susy Wall.
The song is a reflection on how Christmas can be difficult after a bereavement – and reminds that it’s okay to take things slowly while holding onto hope for happier Christmases ahead.
The song is available to download now via Bandcamp, with all proceeds directly funding specialist palliative and end-of-life care for local people across the Dudley borough and surrounding areas.
“I was inspired to write the song after chatting with Ruth about how Christmas can be a really tough time for folks.” Said Susy, the writer of ‘One Day in December’. “I’m hoping to song offers some support to people who find this time of year difficult and I’m really hopeful that lots of people will like the track and buy it on Bandcamp so that we can raise funds for the Hospice.”

“It’s been such an amazing experience to work with Ruth and the team on the song and I’m so pleased that the song resonates with them and aligns with the values of the hospice too.”
Having worked a number of years with bereaved families, our Spiritual Care Lead, Ruth Radley understands that after a bereavement, Christmas can be difficult, making it hard to be able to enjoy things as we once did. Whilst working on creating a ‘Blue Christmas’ video for those in this position, she struggled finding a song which could be used which had the right theme. Knowing how music can offer both honesty and comfort, the idea of commissioning a song was born.
“The song One Day in December was written to reflect these feelings honestly while gently offering hope that future Christmases can feel lighter.” Said Ruth Radley, Spiritual Care Lead at The Mary Stevens Hospice. “By downloading and sharing the song, listeners will be directly supporting the hospice’s essential end-of-life and palliative care for patients and families at a time when care is needed most.”
The song is available now on Bandcamp, where every download helps fund the specialist, palliative and end-of-life care provided by The Mary Stevens Hospice.
The song is available to download today, 1st December via Bandcamp: susywallthemarystevenshospice.bandcamp.com/track/one-day-in-december For more information about the hospice and the services offered, please visit marystevenshospice.co.uk
