Thomas Telford UTC student receives national award
Ryan Skitt, a T Level student at Thomas Telford UTC completing his industry placement with Baily Garner, has been crowned the National Winner of The Gatsby T Level Student of the Year Award 2025 at the National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards.
Ryan was selected as the national champion from over 25,000 T Level students across England. He received his award at a ceremony in London on November 26, hosted by Ben Shephard.
Ryan said: “I’m incredibly proud to be recognised as the National T Level Student of the Year. My T Level has genuinely changed my life it’s given me confidence, real industry experience, and a clear path into the built environment. I hope this achievement inspires other young people to see what’s possible through T Levels and apprenticeships.”

The Judges Citation: "This winner has distinguished themselves in every way, going above and beyond to use their initiative and add value in their role. They really articulated the impact of their additional activity and self-led learning – this is somebody we could hold up as a role model of what a T Level exemplifies, and the employer has recognised they have got a true star."

The annual National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards celebrate the most dedicated and high-achieving apprentices, T Level students, and employers across England. Over 1,000 entries were submitted from sectors including construction, digital, health, science and public services.

The judges praised Ryan for his outstanding professionalism, leadership, and the inspirational impact of his story.
