Lyndon Learners explore DebateMate Programme at University of Birmingham
Lyndon Students Gain Confidence and Critical Thinking Through DebateMate
A group of learners from Lyndon School, part of the Summit Learning Trust, recently visited the University of Birmingham to take part in the prestigious DebateMate programme, an initiative designed to build confidence, communication, and critical thinking skills.
The programme aims to make classroom debating a standard part of learning across subjects, rather than a practice reserved for private schools. With the revised curriculum emphasising oral skills in more subjects, DebateMate equips students with the ability to discuss, present, and debate effectively.
Debating is widely recognised as an effective method for preparing young people for higher education and the world of work. The programme provides opportunities for students from all backgrounds to unlock their potential, build confidence, and develop essential life skills.
By participating in DebateMate, Lyndon learners are gaining not only debating skills but also the confidence and critical thinking abilities needed to succeed in school, work, and life.
Head of School, Syreeta Kapswara said:
"We are incredibly proud of our learners for taking part in the DebateMate programme. Opportunities like this help them develop vital skills in communication and critical thinking, preparing them not just for exams, but for life beyond the classroom. Seeing their confidence grow as they express their ideas is truly inspiring."
