The Merry Boys Inn in Wolverhampton is closing its doors on November 17 to allow for an exciting refurbishment before reopening as a ‘Grandstand’ sports pub on 10th December. This transformation represents a significant investment of over £383,000.

The much-loved community pub will be transformed with new features designed to deliver a stadium-style experience on every visit. The refurbishment will include the installation of market-leading technology, such as a new 3-metre-long and 1.8-metre-tall screen and multiple screen setup, state-of-the-art sound system, and flexible tiered seating to guarantee a great view of the action.

A refurbished outdoor area with TV screens will be added, and locals will be able to order through the all-new Marston’s ‘Order & Pay’ app to ensure they never miss a minute of the action. The pub will also have a brand-new pool table and an improved darts area.

The Merry Boys Inn will also be decorated with local sports memorabilia and is calling on the community to share photographs and items to help celebrate the achievements of local sports stars and teams, past and present.

Pub partner, Andrew Taylor, said: “We will have some amazing new technology, food and drink offers and events, and we want as many local people to be featured on our walls as possible. We can’t wait to welcome all our regulars and some new faces in to see the new and improved Merry Boys Inn.”

Located in Wolverhampton, the Merry Boys Inn sits within the suburban area of Moseley Village. It is perfectly situated for families and locals to spend quality time together, or grab a drink and some food after doing some shopping at Bentley Bridge Retail Park or catching a race at the nearby Wolverhampton Racecourse.

Once reopened, the pub will show all key sporting fixtures, including football, rugby, cricket, tennis, F1, darts, horse racing, and more. Regulation dart boards and pool tables will return, alongside new competition leagues and free-to-play recreational sessions.

A new range of bar food will also be introduced, perfect for a half-time bite or to share with friends. The ‘Match Day Menu’ will feature hand-held bites, such as chicken wings and nachos, sitting alongside pub favourites such as fish and chips and burgers.

Local sports teams will be able to apply for a ‘Black Card’, giving them access to exclusive offers, endless chips on team nights, and rewards for celebrating wins at their local.

The Grandstand concept follows industry research* revealing that 8.5M consumers have watched sports games at the pub, with 86% of fans preferring sports pubs for their atmosphere, better screens and sound, and the chance to connect with friends and family.

Marston’s has selected the Merry Boys Inn for the Grandstand transformation due to its involvement with local sports teams, community groups, and charities. The refurbishment will create an exciting new proposition for local sports fans from Wolverhampton and beyond.

The Merry Boys Inn will close on 17th November and is set to reopen on 10th December with a brand-new look.
