Metro continues discounted travel offer for hospital patients, visitors and staff
Following a successful trial period, patients and families visiting Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital will continue to benefit from discounted tram travel for another 12 months.
Earlier this year, West Midlands Metro partnered with one of the UK’s leading specialist paediatric centres to trial a discount of up to 15% off tram fares for patients and their families travelling to the hospital. The renewed partnership will also continue to benefit hospital staff who use the Metro for their daily commute.
Michael Reading-Skilton, Metro’s Head of Commercial, explained: “Over the past six months, the offer has proved popular, and we’re delighted that our partnership with the hospital will become a longer-term arrangement.
“We know that hospital visits can be stressful for families, and also recognise the fantastic work being done by hospital staff, and we hope this offer will make life a little easier.”
The discount applies to a wide range of zonal options, including daily and monthly passes and with the Metro’s Bull Street stop just a short walk from the hospital in Steelhouse Lane, travelling there by tram couldn’t be more convenient or affordable.

“With services starting at 4.30am, the tram is ideal for staff working early morning shifts, and they can also take advantage of our free park and ride facilities to avoid the hassle and expense of finding a place to leave their car near the hospital,” Michael added.
Mark Hillier, Senior Patient Experience Manager & Transport ESWG Chair from Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital, added: “We’re delighted to see this partnership extended. With Metro stops located right beside Birmingham Children’s Hospital, it will help our patients, families, and staff travel to the hospital affordably and reliably. It also takes the stress out of getting into the city for our patients and staff.”
To access the discount, patients and families will receive a QR code at the hospital, which can be scanned to generate an exclusive code for use on the MyMetro app. Hospital staff can find the code through the hospital’s internal communications channels.
