The celebrations brought biology to life for students across all year groups, highlighting the subject’s relevance, diversity and real-world impact.

The week opened with a whole-school Biology Spelling Bee. Students from every year group joined in, with finalists competing live to demonstrate their scientific vocabulary and knowledge. A huge well done to all our finalists, who performed brilliantly throughout the competition.

A highlight of the week was a live-streamed biology webinar for Aldersley Sixth students, hosted in our newly refurbished theatre. Chaired by our Director of Science, Ms McClure, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, the session featured fascinating insights into three key areas of the subject: immunology, biotechnology and deep-sea exploration. Students enjoyed talks from leading experts including Dr Donald Palmer, Professor Diane Purchase and Professor Jon Copley, who shared their research and experiences in making biology accessible, inspiring and deeply relevant to the world around us.

Ms McClure also represented Aldersley High at the Royal Society of Biology’s annual Networking and Awards Ceremony, held at the House of Commons. The event brought together leading voices from science and policy, focusing on the critical role that biology plays in shaping a sustainable and healthier future.

Throughout the week, students took part in a range of activities in school, including the Royal Society of Biology’s memory game, careers exploration sessions, and the launch of the BioCraft competition. One of the most memorable lessons brought high-level biological ideas to life using puppets, encouraging creativity and deeper understanding in an engaging way.

As part of our environmental commitment, Aldersley High is proud to have planted 25 new trees in the Aldersley Forest through our partnership with Just One Tree. These trees will be carefully planted and nurtured, with the forest expected to remove approximately 15.4 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere over the next 25 years.
