The ceremony at Wolgarston High School in Penkridge, Staffordshire, was opened by Headteacher Mr. Boden, who spoke about the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by past generations and the values they represent.

Head Girl Evie Phillips and Deputy Head Boy Stephen Hill delivered a moving reading of a war poem, capturing the solemnity of the occasion. Representatives from the Royal British Legion then read the Exhortation, a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of those who served.

The service concluded with a poignant performance of The Last Post, played by a talented 6th Form student George Aldridge, bringing the school community to a moment of reflection and silence. Mr. Boden expressed his pride in the students and staff, saying the event demonstrated the school’s deep respect for tradition and its commitment to ensuring that the meaning of Remembrance lives on.

“I am very proud of how all our students paid their respects today and especially proud of our sixth form students leaders, Evie Phillips. Stephen Hill and Lorena Thompson-Kerr, as well as our musician George Aldridge, for their contributions to our event,” said Miss Turner (Head of Sixth Form & Assistant Headteacher), “Thank you also to the representatives from the Penkridge branch of the Royal British Legion, Pauline Elsmore, Yvonne Buckland and Michael Millward, who not only provided a solemnity to this occasion, but also graciously gave up their time to talk to our leadership team about their experiences in the armed services and the work the Poppy Appeal undertakes.”
