Rugeley & District Lions celebrate service and spirit at annual Charter Dinner
The Rugeley & District Lions Club hosted its annual Charter Dinner at Ingestre Golf Club, marking a night of celebration, recognition, and heartfelt camaraderie. Members gathered to honour the club’s achievements and the outstanding contributions of its volunteers, with the evening featuring a hearty meal and entertainment by local singer Rich Parsons.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship (MJF) awards to Jane Stevenson, Pauline Holmes, John Morgan, and Elaine Morgan. These individuals now join an elite group of six club members who hold this distinguished honour, recognising their exceptional service to the community. Awards were presented by 2nd Vice District Governor Ken Topping.

Certificates of appreciation were also awarded to long-serving members whose dedication has made a lasting impact:
Peter Fielding was recognized for 30 years of organising the beloved Rugeley Santa Sleigh.
Club President Debra Coburn received a certificate for her decade of leadership in the Rugeley Toy Appeal, which has brought Christmas joy to thousands of children.
Jane Stevenson was honoured for 10 years of hosting Macmillan coffee mornings, supporting cancer care and fundraising efforts.

The evening was expertly emceed by Town Crier Adrian Basford, whose presence added a traditional touch to the festivities. Speeches from Club President Debra Coburn, 2nd Vice District Governor Ken Topping, and Chair of Rugeley Town Council Jane Leadbetter reflected the deep appreciation for the club’s work and the spirit of service that defines its members.

The Charter Dinner was more than a celebration—it was a testament to the Lions’ enduring commitment to community, friendship, and making a difference. As the club looks ahead, it does so with pride in its legacy and excitement for the future.
