Drawing from his own experience of leaving Mumbai for London, the play follows Uday Kumar (known simply as “UK”) a call centre worker and influencer in New Delhi who dreams of a glittering life in the West. When the chance comes to cross continents, he boards a flight full of hope but on arrival, instead of the dream life he anticipated, he faces loneliness, racism, exploitative employers and unfulfilled promises.

“The grass is not always greener on the other side, but we still make the decision every day to be here and contribute,” Mathur explains. “It’s funny, painful, and deeply personal. I want South Asian audiences to see themselves on stage, but I also want all audiences to question how we treat those who come here in search of a better life.”

Developed through Vital Xposure’s programme for Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent writers, the play has grown from early workshops at Riverside Studios and Barons Court Theatre to a showcase at Soho Theatre, before heading to the Edinburgh Fringe where it was met with critical acclaim.

Mohit may be familiar to audiences from his appearance in the Olivier award winning West End production of Life of Pi in 2022. He’s also performed Shakespeare with Flute Theatre in the UK and abroad, and worked with Welsh National Opera on Migrations, an opera exploring the stories of Indian doctors who came to Britain in the 1970s.
