Wolverhampton care home manager honoured with national award for leadership
A Wolverhampton-based care home manager has been recognised on the national stage, after being named Care Home Registered Manager of the Year at the Great British Care Awards 2025.
Louise Ali, who leads the team at Wulfrun Rose – a purpose-built care home part of the Macc Care Group located just outside the city centre – was praised for her “exceptional leadership, inclusive approach and strong focus on resident outcomes”.
Louise stepped into the role at a particularly difficult time for the home, following the sudden passing of the previous manager. Her calm, compassionate leadership helped the team and residents through a period of emotional transition, restoring stability and confidence in the home – something that was noted by the judges.
And since then, Louise has introduced a number of new initiatives that have made a tangible difference to day-to-day life at Wulfrun Rose. These include structured team huddles, reflective supervisions, anonymous staff feedback tools and a new ‘Value of the Month’ programme to promote shared values such as dignity and empathy.
One particularly meaningful project – co-designed with staff and families – focused on Afro hair care training. Now part of the home’s ongoing training calendar, the initiative has been praised by residents for its cultural sensitivity and care. One resident shared that, for the first time in care, they felt “seen and respected”.

Speaking after the awards, Louise said: “This award is a real honour – but it’s not just for me. It’s for the incredible team at Wulfrun Rose, and the residents and families who make our home so special. We’ve built something together that truly reflects the community we serve, and I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved.”
Wulfrun Rose, located on Lakefield Road, is part of the Macc Care Group, which operates 16 care homes across the Midlands. The home offers residential, dementia and nursing care in a modern, welcoming setting.
Under Louise’s leadership, the home has also seen more staff from underrepresented backgrounds progress into senior roles, and family feedback has highlighted Wulfrun Rose’s “inclusive and thoughtful” environment.
Bhav Amlani, director at Macc Care Group, added: “Louise has made an extraordinary impact, not just on her team and the residents at Wulfrun Rose, but on the wider Macc Care family. Her leadership is compassionate, innovative and rooted in real outcomes. We’re thrilled to see her recognised on a national platform – she thoroughly deserves this award.”
Looking ahead, Louise plans to launch a peer mentoring scheme to support the next generation of care leaders, as well as expand the home’s cultural awareness training to include religious and dietary needs.
