For more than 25 years, Light up a Life has been a cherished tradition at the charity, bringing comfort to families at a difficult time of year. Each dedication is both a personal tribute and gift, helping fund specialist care for local people living with incurable illness.

Long-term hospice volunteer, Jean Speechley, said:“The Light up a Life service is truly humbling. Families of all ages come together in this beautiful act of remembrance, and you can see just how much it means to them.”

One regular supporter shared, “I do it every year. It’s a lovely tribute to lost loved ones.”

Javier González-Fritz, who leads the Family Support Team at the hospice, said: “Light up a Life is not only a symbolic way to honour loved ones, it also funds the vital care we provide for families, many of whom may be facing their last Christmas together.

“Without the support of the local community, we wouldn’t be able to provide the care that we do. Last year alone, our Family Support Team delivered nearly 2,500 bereavement sessions and 1,500 counselling sessions, thanks to your generosity.

“By dedicating a light this Christmas, you are not only honouring a precious memory, but also helping us bring comfort to others, so that no one has to face illness or grief alone.”

The lights will be switched on during a special remembrance service at the hospice on Sunday, December 7, at 5pm, which is open to all – even if you haven’t experienced our care or support.

Local company, Treeway Fencing Ltd has agreed to donate the Christmas tree to Katharine House Hospice, MMS Marketing will be sponsoring the lights and KGL Estates Ltd is supporting the appeal.

You can dedicate a light by visiting khhospice.org.uk/light-up-a-life or calling the hospice on 01785 254645.
