Cannock Chase MP opens Rugeley’s brand-new Banking Hub
Josh Newbury MP, Member of Parliament for Cannock Chase, was in Rugeley on Friday, October 10, to officially open the town’s new Banking Hub, located in a transformed former fast-food takeaway the heart of the town centre. The launch marks a major step forward in restoring access to face-to-face banking services for local residents, following the closure of several high street branches in recent years.
The Hub has been delivered by Cash Access UK, a not-for-profit organisation funded by the major high street banks. The Banking Hub provides shared banking services for the local community, allowing residents to withdraw cash, deposit cheques, and speak directly with branch staff from five major banks who each spend one day a week in the Hub.
With the top-quality renovation now complete, Josh Newbury MP was joined by representatives from Cash Access UK, participating banks, and Rugeley Town Crier Adrian J. Basford to cut the ribbon and mark the official opening.

Speaking at the launch, Josh Newbury MP said: “With banks disappearing from our high streets, it is incredibly important that local people still have access to face-to-face banking services. Older people and those who struggle with technology often do not feel comfortable with online banking, so losing their high street bank branch can be very isolating.

“That’s why I’m delighted to see the Banking Hub open in Rugeley. This is not only a win for local people, but it is great to see a fantastic new space open on the high street. With Cash Access UK telling me that they have taken out a ten-year lease on this building, this means that banking services are here to stay in Rugeley.”
The Banking Hub is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and hosts a different community banker each day. Lloyds will operate on Mondays, Barclays on Tuesdays, NatWest on Wednesdays, HSBC on Thursdays, and Halifax on Fridays.
Customers can also access a counter service operated by the Post Office, which supports cash transactions for all major banks and building societies.

Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK said: “I’m happy to announce the opening of our Rugeley hub in its permanent home, ensuring crucial access to cash and face-to-face banking services for residents and businesses across the community.
“Customers can visit on any day of the week for their everyday banking transactions, and if you have a specific or more complex enquiry for your bank, a Community Banker will be there to help on the day they’re in the hub.”
