Located near David Wilson Homes’ new community at The Lapwings, the charity, started by Ed Briscoe and Raine McCaughtrie, houses and cares for dogs in Staffordshire and beyond.

Sarah Brown, Fundraising Co-ordinator at Brighter Days Rescue, said: “As a relatively new charity, recognition and support from businesses such as David Wilson Homes is invaluable.

“Since opening our doors in 2022, which we could only do thanks to local community member Mrs Miles allowing us to use her boarding facility as the kennels, we have been eager to raise awareness of our work, and partnerships like this play a vital role in helping us do so."

Brighter Days Rescue is a borderless rescue, meaning it takes relinquishments from all over the UK, whilst also helping rescues overseas. It has homed 580 dogs as of 11th December 2024, and has had people travel as far as Cornwall to adopt dogs.

The charity also has a foster scheme for dogs that do not cope well in the kennels. With a section for long-term dogs and those who will probably stay with the charity indefinitely, it has built a special sanctuary space where these dogs can run free during the daytime.

Sarah continued: "The standard of care at Brighter Days Rescue is exceptional. Our team goes above and beyond, treating every dog as if they were their own. The kennels are spacious, clean, and bright.”

“I’m extremely proud to represent the charity, especially when showing visitors around, as they are always so impressed by what they see."

The charity also cooperates with Rodbaston College to provide work experience for students gaining animal care qualifications. It also supports students with additional learning needs by holding sessions run by a qualified special educational needs teacher in a safe, controlled environment.

It has created a community at the kennels with many people visiting the charity to volunteer, who have made friends, gained confidence, and transformed their mental health.

Helen Lewis, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We are proud to have welcomed the members of Brighter Days Rescue to The Lapwings development. We are eager to support and uplift charities throughout the local area, especially for a special day which means so much to so many of us.

“The Lapwings, with its bountiful open space, is the perfect space to take the dog for a walk, and Stafford has many lovely walking routes dotted throughout the surrounding countryside.”

David Wilson Homes encourages anyone interested in supporting the charity to learn more about them at their website at Brighter Days Rescue, and get involved.
