The show must go on after a council in Staffordshire closes a theatre and a musical society relocates its performances
Cannock Wood and Gentleshaw Musical Society brings a beloved community show to Burntwood after relocating performances from the Prince of Wales Theatre.
Cannock Wood and Gentleshaw Musical Society (CWAGMS) proudly presents The Railway Children Return Ticket, a new musical set years after the classic Railway Children. Audiences at Burntwood Memorial Hall will enjoy familiar faces, fresh characters, and a Christmas twist from December 10th to 13th, 2025.
Since the closure of Cannock’s Prince of Wales Theatre, CWAGMS has relocated to Burntwood Memorial Hall on Rugeley Road, Burntwood, continuing a 48-year tradition of community theatre and charity performances.
Founded nearly five decades ago by local church families, CWAGMS has delivered more than 90 shows, earning recognition for its commitment to the community and its charitable efforts worldwide.
The Railway Children Return Ticket is set against the backdrop of Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation, following the next generation of young performers as they discover adventures at the iconic railway station. The production features a mix of beloved songs, new characters, and a festive twist suitable for all ages.
“Moving our performances to Burntwood Memorial Hall has shown the resilience and spirit of our cast and volunteers. We’re thrilled to bring The Railway Children Return Ticket to local families this festive season.” says John Nicholls, CWAGMS Musical Director
“Despite disruptions from venue changes, CWAGMS remains dedicated to delivering high-quality theatre that supports charity and community connection. We invite everyone to come together for a magical show.” Sharron Burns, CWAGMS Director added
