Local women’s football team in Staffordshire nets £2,500 boost
A Lichfield club is scoring success on and off the pitch.
Lichfield City Women FC has been given a boost to help women and girls enjoy football.
The club has been awarded £2,500 from Persimmon Homes West Midlands through the housebuilder’s Community Champions initiative.
The funding will help reduce subscription fees for players and make the sport more affordable.
The club hopes the donation will ease financial barriers for families, encourage new players to join, and support the growth of their newly launched Girls Development Centre.

Saddiqa Shan, Chairlady of Lichfield City FC’s Women's section said: This funding will help support us in continuing our commitment to make the sport more accessible for young girls and women and will further strengthen the work that we are doing to improve on building on our female pathway.
“We already have a great team of highly skilled and qualified coaches/ staff at the club, and this will now allow us to ensure that the players have got the best kit/ equipment available to them to truly give them the best playing experience at this great club!”
Lee Perry, Technical Director at Persimmon Homes West Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to support Lichfield City Women FC with this donation. Grassroots football plays such a vital role in bringing people together, promoting fitness, and inspiring the next generation. We hope this funding helps the club continue its fantastic work across the city.”
