Hospice care is more than you think: Compton Care seeks views during Hospice Care Week
Compton Care, a leading provider of palliative and bereavement support, has been out in the community this week for Hospice Care Week, raising awareness of its specialist services and the vital role hospice care plays in people’s lives.

Hospice Care Week is a national opportunity to shine a light on the breadth and depth of support available, and to challenge perceptions of what hospice care really means, working tirelessly to make sure that those people are comfortable and can live well with their conditions.
Colleagues from the charity were in Wolverhampton’s Queen Square this week, speaking to members of the public about the specialist services available, which are provided free of charge to patients and loved ones.
The charity is also encouraging people to share their feedback about what they know of their services to help them understand how they can better support local communities.

For over forty years, Compton Care has been delivering high-quality, accessible care to people across Wolverhampton, the Black Country, South Staffordshire and east Shropshire. Today, its services go far beyond traditional hospice care.
In addition to its 18-bed Inpatient Unit, Compton also provides a wide range of specialist services tailored to each person including a Virtual Ward that delivers hospital-level care at home. And enhanced care services including psychological therapies, complementary therapies and bereavement support help patients and families through every aspect of their palliative care journey and beyond.
Rachel Overfield, CEO of Compton Care, said: “We take immense pride in the outstanding care and support we offer - whether that’s within our facilities or in the comfort of people’s homes. Our focus is always on helping patients and their loved ones feel safe, reassured, and supported during life’s most challenging moments.
“There are still many misconceptions about what hospice care is and who it’s for. People often think it’s only about end-of-life care, but it’s so much more than that. We want to break down barriers and bust some myths by having open, honest conversations with our local communities. Hospice care is about living well, with dignity and support, and we’re here to help people understand that. Gathering feedback from our communities is invaluable, and helps us to continuously improve, so thank you to everyone who came to speak to us.”
