The Midcounties Co-operative pays tribute to local colleague Michelle for 20 years of service
Local employee, Michelle Holland from Cannock, is being celebrated for her long-standing contribution to The Midcounties Co-operative since it formed 20 years ago, specifically the difference she’s made to her community during COVID and by supporting her team to help local organisations.
The acknowledgement comes as Midcounties marks its own 20th anniversary and looks to showcase the colleagues that have been with them from the very beginning, thanking them for their service and valuable contribution.
Michelle has been a part of Midcounties since the co-operative first formed in 2005, starting as a Travel Consultant and progressing to be the Assistant Manager at the Your Co-op Travel branch in Cannock. She was first drawn to the co-operative as a way to make a difference to her local area while also helping customers to fulfil their travel plans.
Working alongside her team to give back to the local community has been a significant part of Michelle’s role over the last two decades. From raising money for a town defibrillator to supporting local charities like Newlife and MASE, she is passionate about Midcounties’ Doing Good Together Fund which allows each of the Society’s sites to support local causes their members nominate.
Michelle also stepped in to support Co-op Little Pioneers’ keyworkers at the Walsall Wood nursery during COVID when travel was on hold.
Talking about her role at Midcounties over the last 20 years, Michelle said: “I love the world of travel and helping our customers to achieve their dream holiday but working alongside my team and colleagues from other Midcounties services to help local communities has been a true highlight for me over the last 20 years.
“From championing and supporting local good causes to stepping in to assist the Walsall Wood Co-op Little Pioneers branch during the pandemic, it’s been great to see the impact we can have when we work together to do good for those around us. There’s a real team spirit at Midcounties and I’m proud to be part of a co-operative that supports my career and growth as well as helping the wider community.”
Phil Ponsonby, Chief Executive of The Midcounties Co-operative, said: “For 20 years, our remarkable colleagues and members have been at the heart of everything we do. One of the things I’m especially proud of is the impact our colleagues, especially those like Michelle who have been with us since the very beginning, have enabled us to have on our local communities.
“This anniversary is all about celebrating the good we’ve done together – growing our businesses, championing sustainability, and supporting the communities we serve. We are driven by a desire to create a fairer, more sustainable, and ethical future, as we continue to find new ways to deliver even greater value.
“Our sincere thanks go out to Michelle for all she’s done for our Society and the communities she supports – the hard work doesn’t go unnoticed and it’s great to be able to recognise her contribution as we celebrate 20 years of Midcounties.”
The Midcounties Co-operative is celebrating its 20th anniversary this September, marking two decades of growth, innovation and community impact as one of the UK’s largest independent co-operatives. Since forming in 2005, Midcounties’ turnover has more than trebled, from £421 million to over £1.5 billion.
To mark the milestone, Midcounties is offering a selection of exclusive deals across its food, travel, phone, and broadband businesses. This includes offers such as 20% off selected Co-op own-label shopping essentials across all stores from now until 6th October and the chance to win two Jet2 Holiday vouchers worth £1,020.
