Staffs WI Take Hedgehogs on Tour !
The plight of Britain's much loved Hedgehog is being highlighted in a display at the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, Wolseley Bridge
Staffordshire Federation of Women's Institutes held a competition to craft a hedgehog from recycled materials to raise awareness of the decline of this prickly mammal. Messages with the entries give ways in which they may be protected and allowed to thrive.
The competition was organised by the Staffordshire Federation's Education & Public Affairs Committee and their Chair, Karen Sulway, said, 'The use of different materials in the construction of the hedgehogs was really innovative and was part of the judging process.
The messages show that small changes made in gardens can make a big difference to ensure the survival of these well loved creatures. These changes are particularly important at this time of year when Hedgehogs are looking for suitable places to hibernate '.

The winning entry was crafted by Julie Hughes of Aston-by-Stone WI using packaging, lollipop sticks, hessian threads and dried natural materials. It carried a clear message 'Don't Fence Me In !'
The hedgehogs can be seen at the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust until 9 November between 9.30am and 4.30pm every day.
