Monsters, mermaids and dragons at Dudley libraries

To celebrate the launch of ‘The Black Country Tales’, Professor Black, aka author Damian Carter, will share fascinating stories from his illustrated collection of stories at each of the sessions. There will also be an opportunity for children to get creative themselves.

“I wanted to give children stories that feel both familiar and fantastical,” said Damian. “The Black Country has its own magic, and when you pair that with the epic scale of mythology, you get something truly special.

“From hauntings in Lower Gornal to the still waters of Fens Pool, each tale is steeped in local history and reimagined through the lens of global myth.

“With themes of courage, curiosity and community, the series invites young readers to explore the power of storytelling and the importance of preserving cultural heritage, as well as embracing their own self-confidence.

“The books are beautifully illustrated and perfect for classroom discussion, bedtime reading, or independent exploration.”

Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the not-for-profit social enterprise that runs Dudley libraries on behalf of the council.

“We’re delighted to be hosting these five free interactive events,” said Jacqueline Bayliss, GLL’s Wordsley Library Manager. “Professor Black’s stories are very entertaining and I’m sure young audiences will love hearing about them and getting involved in associated activities.”
