Campaign marks five years of providing timely advice for parents with new babies
A scheme that provides new parents with timely advice on their baby’s development is celebrating five years of success in the month when the most children are born in the UK.
Staffordshire County Council’s Hungry Little Minds Staffordshire campaign encourages parents in Staffordshire to read to, chat to and play with their baby from the moment they’re born.
Once signed up to the campaign, personalised emails are sent to parents twice a month, which tell them about key actions they can take with their baby at each age and stage, to help their development.
Now, new parents are being reminded to sign up, as the campaign introduces six new faces to help spread the word.
When 36-year-old Emily found out she was expecting Nathan, she wanted to make sure she was doing all she could to give him the best start possible. Growing up with a mum who is a midwife, taking care of babies is second nature but Emily wanted to make sure she was supporting Nathan’s developmental needs, too.
After spotting a post on social media, she signed up to receive Hungry Little Minds Staffordshire updates while she was still pregnant with Nathan, who celebrated his first birthday in July 2025.

Emily said: “I’ve had lots to do with babies, but having your own is very different. Nate is my first child, so I was keen to learn about all the ways I could help his development. I only use trusted sources for guidance, so Hungry Little Minds was perfect!
“The tips and reminders are great, and I found out about lots of free activities. It's so helpful for first-time mums, and parents in general. I would encourage everyone to sign up.”
Janet Higgins, Cabinet Member for Education and SEND at Staffordshire County Council, said: “Now in its fifth year, the Hungry Little Minds campaign continues to make a difference to local families. 90% of families said the campaign helped them to understand their child’s development.
“The earlier we can support babies with their development, the easier it will be for them to succeed in school and beyond.”
The Hungry Little Minds Staffordshire campaign was launched in 2020 and has helped thousands of parents across Staffordshire. Further details are available on the Hungry Little Minds campaign webpage.
