Lower energy bills, no repairs or renovations and the chance to enjoy a new lease of life, are just some of the reasons people are downsizing.

Elan Homes is hosting a special event at Lorne House at The Sidings this weekend (September 27-28) to help people explore the reasons for downsizing.

Visitors will be able to view the four bespoke-designed apartments and speak with experts who can help them make a move, even if they have a house to sell.

Elan regional sales director Tracey Ball said: “People often feel attached to what was once their family home and perhaps want to stay there long after the children have moved out. But there are lots of practical and financial reasons downsizing makes sense and that doesn’t necessarily mean waiting until retirement and or moving to a specialist retirement complex.

“It could be that now the children have gone to university or bought homes of their own or your energy bills for a large home are more astronomical than economical. Or maybe you’re tired of spending time and money on maintenance when what you really want is a holiday. For some, downsizing could mean becoming mortgage free or being able to help their children or grandchildren towards a deposit for a home of their own.

“Our downsizers’ event is about exploring the various factors and helping people take that next step with confidence and clarity.”
