Free Dog First Aid Awareness Day to be held in Halesowen
Dog owners in Halesowen are being invited to a free awareness event this October to learn vital first aid skills that could save their pet's life.
The Dog First Aid Awareness Day will take place at The Big Pet Store, Halesowen on Saturday, October 4, giving local owners the opportunity to find out what to do in common emergencies such as choking, bleeding, heatstroke, poisoning and seizures.
Organiser Vanessa Woollatt from Critters Academy, said that many dog owners are unprepared for the unexpected.

“If your dog collapsed on a walk tomorrow, would you know what to do? Most wouldn’t which is why awareness is so important. Dog first aid is not about replacing veterinary treatment. It is about buying time and giving your dog the best chance until professional help is available.”

Emergencies with dogs are more common than many realise. According to the PDSA, almost 8 in 10 UK dog owners have experienced a pet emergency in the past two years. Quick action from owners in those first few minutes can make a critical difference.
As part of the event, visitors will be able to:
Practice CPR on specialist canine manikin dogs
Learn how to apply bandages for emergency situations
Put a dog into the recovery position safely and correctly
Take away information leaflets packed with first aid guidance
Enjoy children’s activities at this family-friendly event
The dog awareness day is open to all dog owners and lovers, from first-time puppy parents to professional dog walkers. It is designed to be simple, practical and informative.

The event is free to attend, and no booking is required.
