Wolverhampton Wheelers youth win West Mids circuit team award

Wolverhampton Wheelers Cycling Club, based at Aldersley Stadium, is making waves in the regional cycling scene, with its youth riders leading the charge in circuit racing across the West Midlands.

Over the past few months, young athletes aged 5 to 16 have represented the club in a series of closed-circuit races, going head-to-head with some of the best riders in the region. Their dedication and talent have paid off, with the Wheelers emerging as top contenders in multiple events.

The club’s success is rooted in its thriving, family-oriented atmosphere, which nurtures young talent across a range of disciplines including circuit racing, track racing and cyclocross. Many of these young riders are now competing not just regionally, but nationally and taking podium places—bringing pride to Wolverhampton and inspiring the next generation of cyclists.

Club President Hugh Porter MBE and Olympic gold medallist Anita Lonsbrough are regular supporters at the Aldersley Velodrome, often seen cheering on the youth riders. Both were delighted to attend a recent celebration of the children’s achievements, praising their commitment and sportsmanship.

U10 rider Benjamin Stephens said We have had some great individual performances this year and as a team who support one another, it is great to have won the Team Award too.” With its experienced coaching team, supportive environment, and a growing roster of talented young cyclists, Wolverhampton Wheelers continues to set the pace for youth cycling in the region.
