Hundreds join Katharine House Hospice’s Walk to Remember for second year
Hundreds of supporters gathered at the Shugborough Estate on Saturday, September 13, for Walk to Remember, Katharine House Hospice’s biggest event of the year.
Now in its second year, the event brought together people of all ages and abilities to walk in memory of loved ones, celebrate life, and support the work of the charity. The afternoon was filled with smiles, shared memories, and moments of reflection.
After completing the walk, supporters were invited to make personal dedications on a special display and join for a moment of reflection, to honour those they were walking for.
Among the walkers were hospice staff from teams across the organisation. Many took part in memory of the patients they cared for, as well as their loved ones, walking alongside families doing the same.

Terry Croxton walked in memory of his wife Barbara, who was cared for by the hospice. He said: "I may be 80, but I’m still fit and active. I used to take part in the cycle ride to help raise funds, and now I’m walking in memory of my wife, Barbara, who was so well cared for by the hospice. It’s a beautiful way to remember her.”

Walking in memory of her Aunty Deb who died recently, Zoe Williams commented: "The hospice and the nurses have done so much for me - I truly can’t thank them enough for the support they’ve given. I’m walking in memory of my Aunty Deb. She was a lovely lady, like a second mum to me, and that’s how I’ll always remember her for her loveliness. I was even able to celebrate my 40th birthday at the hospice with her, which made it all the more special."
For Katharine House Hospice’s events fundraiser Lyndsey Howard, the day captured everything charity stands for: “It’s been amazing to see the community come together again in such numbers. Walk to Remember is more than a fundraiser; it’s a day of community, connection and compassion. I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved – and so grateful to everyone who made it possible.”

Lyndsey also paid tribute to the sponsors and partners who helped bring the event to life, including Millar Sandy Commercial Property Services, the National Trust Team at Shugborough, Traction Equipment Services, UK Medical & Event Services, Paul Milgate Scarrott Photography, Vibe 1 radio, compere Paul Dean, and the hospice’s dedicated volunteers.
As Katharine House Hospice relies on community support to provide expert care for people living with incurable illness, the impact of the day will be felt far beyond Shugborough’s grounds.
“Every pound raised will help us continue providing compassionate care for people across our community,” added Lyndsey.
“Thank you to everyone who walked, donated and supported us – you’ve helped make this a truly special day.”

Katharine House Hospice relies on the generosity of the local community to fund its expert care for people living with incurable illness. Events like Walk to Remember help raise vital funds to support patients and families when they need it most.
