Final phase of £1.5m highways scheme in Staffordshire begins next week

On Monday 15 September, Staffordshire County Council’s highways crews will begin resurfacing sections of the A4091 Coleshill Street and Atherstone Street in Fazeley.

The work will also include replacing ironworks and making repairs to kerbs and footpaths where necessary.

On 15 September, crews will start resurfacing Atherstone Street from the junction of Victory Terrace to the pedestrian crossing. This part of the scheme is expected to take one week with crews working between 7.30am and 6pm from Monday to Friday.

From 22 September, crews will start resurfacing Coleshill Street from the junction of New Street to No. 85. Work here will run between 9am and 3pm.

This follows on from work completed by crews to resurface sections of the Coleshill Street Island and its approaches back in July.

The overall scheme is expected to take around one month to complete.

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said: “It’s fantastic to see this important scheme moving into its final phase. Unfortunately, we had to pause work earlier in the summer due to unacceptable abuse directed at our highways crews during night shifts.

“We take the safety of our staff extremely seriously, which is why we’ve introduced measures such as daytime-only working and equipping crews with bodycams so incidents can be reported directly to the police.

“With these protections in place, I’m pleased we can now finish the job and deliver the improvements local people have been waiting for.”
