Chris Tarrant to speak at sell-out Bewdley charity lunch

Legendary television presenter and broadcaster Chris Tarrant will be guest speaker at a sell-out charity lunch in Bewdley next week.

All 140 tickets for the event, hosed by the Wyre Forest Committee of Cancer Research UK, were snapped up before it was officially advertised.

Mr Tarrant, best known for presenting the hit TV quiz show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, will share anecdotes spanning his long career, which also includes co-hosting the iconic 1970s children’s programme Tiswas.

The £50-a-head lunch is being held at Wharton Park Golf and Country Club on Thursday September 18 and is expected in to raise in excess of £4,000 for lifesaving cancer research.

Anita Rose, chair of the Wyre Forest Committee, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Chris to Bewdley and we’re overwhelmed by the level of support this lunch has received, underlying both his ongoing popularity and the strong support for our cause.

“He promises to provide an afternoon of entertainment and inspiration for our guests who will also enjoy a fabulous two-course meal in Wharton’s top-class restaurant.”

Tiswas creator, retired broadcaster Peter Tomlinson, who is honorary president of the committee, co-presented the programme with Mr Tarrant.

He said: “Chris and I go back a long way and it will be wonderful to have a good catch up with him. This is his second time as guest speaker at one of our events and we are incredibly grateful for his support.”
