West Midlands company champions local recruitment in the next generation of construction

As the construction sector estimates over 200,000 new skilled workers are needed to hit housing targets over the next five years, HadleyFRAME, the specialist contracting division of roll formed steel experts Hadley Group, is championing local recruitment and training with its work experience scheme.

The West Midlands based company is working with local college, Dudley College of Technology, to provide work experience for its students. One student who took up the opportunity was 21-year-old Max Worsey, who had completed a Level 4 apprenticeship in Surveying & Design and joined HadleyFRAME as a Junior Estimator.

Max, who joined HadleyFRAME for work experience two years ago, has now been employed full time by the company who are supporting him through his studies as he aims for a Level 6 Honors degree in Quantity Surveying.

Max said: “Being able to work at HadleyFRAME while completing my apprenticeship has been a great experience. It’s allowed me to learn a lot more than I would being in a classroom and the team have really welcomed me with open arms.

“I found out about the work experience scheme through my Head Teacher at college, who recommended I apply for it. What was supposed to be temporary work experience has now become my full-time job which I can do alongside my studying.

“Quantity surveying for a company using modern methods of construction, like the HadleyFRAME project, has been a lot more interesting compared to traditional construction. I’ve learned how different and efficient it is compared to standard new builds. It’s quicker to produce and install and is a cost-effective alternative.”

HadleyFRAME delivers comprehensive Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) solutions, with a strong focus on high-performance steel frame offsite construction. It offers tailored solutions between 2D panelised systems and fully modular construction to meet the needs of any project. “To be offered the position that I have, while still being able to complete my studies has been an opportunity that I am grateful for,” Max continued. “This path into the construction industry is one I’d recommend to others if they have the opportunity to do so as work will always be available.”

Steve Chesters, Business Unit Director at HadleyFRAME, said: “We’ve worked with Dudley College for a number of years, and Max is an excellent example of the talent we have gained through our work experience partnership.

“Now more than ever we should be training our local upcoming industry professionals for the future of construction, like the HadleyFRAME product that provides a sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective off-site construction solution.”
