Crystal Academy delivers biggest ever summer HAF programme – with over 320 spaces attended
Crystal Academy: Aerial Arts and Dance CIC, based in Hednesford, has celebrated its most successful Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme to date, welcoming more than 20 children and young people each day throughout the summer. With record demand, the Academy was granted additional spaces to ensure families across Staffordshire and beyond could benefit from the free and partially-funded provision.
The non-profit community organisation, based in Hednesford, delivered a wide variety of workshops including acrobatics, aerial hoop, dance and theatre skills, alongside daily fruit, snacks and the option of a warm meal. Parents praised the Academy’s welcoming environment and nutritious offer, which helped ease the pressure of school holiday costs.

This summer saw a noticeable increase in 12–16 year olds taking part, as well as a higher number of boys joining the sessions. Importantly, the Academy also supported several SEND children, who began the workshops shy and reserved, but left with new skills and friendships thanks to the inclusive and encouraging approach of the staff team.

Jason Kolmer, Designated Safeguarding Lead at Crystal Academy, said: “This was our biggest HAF programme yet, and the best. We’re proud to create a safe, exciting space where every child – regardless of background or need – can thrive, build confidence and feel part of a community.”
Looking ahead, Crystal Academy plans to strengthen partnerships with local supermarkets, food suppliers, councils and community groups to continue broadening its offer. The team also hopes to expand provision for older teens in future HAF periods.
