In a remarkable gesture of community spirit and dedication, Chris has taken over the former Sandwell Naval Club premises, a beloved site that was due to close its doors for good. Instead, it is being revived as a welcoming drop-in centre for ex-service members and veterans from the military, police, and other frontline services across the region.

Officially now open, the new centre will be a vital social haven for veterans and the wider Sandwell community, offering a place to connect, relax, and engage in meaningful activities. Open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, (The Royal Naval Club, Bull Lane, West Bromwich, West Midlands, B70 9PB) it will also support Bridgewater Home Care’s mission to combat loneliness and improve wellbeing among older people and those with care needs.

“This isn’t just about a building, it’s about preserving the spirit of the community,” said Chris. “The Naval Club has always had a strong legacy in Sandwell, and we wanted to make sure that didn’t disappear. By transforming the site into a vibrant, inclusive space for veterans and the local community, we hope to honour that legacy and make a real difference.”

To mark both the one-year anniversary of Bridgewater Home Care Sandwell and the launch of the revitalised centre, a celebratory event took place on August 23. The event was open to the public and included music, refreshments, activities, and speeches from community leaders.

The Mayor of Sandwell, the longest-serving member of the former naval club, attended as an honorary guest, alongside Bob 'Knobby' Clarke Deputy Lord lieutenant Dave and special guests from the local veteran community, a powerful reminder of the wisdom, strength, and stories that live on in Sandwell.

Bridgewater Home Care, a leading name in compassionate home care across the region, continues to expand its services and community impact in Sandwell. Chris and his team remain committed to supporting vulnerable individuals not just through care, but through connection and community engagement.
