The report outlines how whg has continued to lead the way in the housing sector, achieving the Certified Sustainable Housing Label from pan-European consultancy Ritterwald for the third consecutive year. Once again, whg secured the highest possible rating of ‘Frontrunner’ in the social category and ‘Ambassador’ in both environmental and governance performance, recognition of its strong commitment to sustainability.

One of the year’s standout projects was the launch of the Net Zero Neighbourhood pilot at Dudley Fields in Bloxwich. The £2.1 million investment will see 85 homes receive free energy efficiency upgrades including insulation, solar panels and air source heat pumps. The project is also generating new local opportunities, with 52 jobs and 25 apprenticeships created, alongside a new Energy Hub to provide advice and demonstrations of retrofit works.

Over the past year, whg reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 6% compared to the previous year and completed 467 new homes, 85% of which achieved an EPC rating of B or better.

The report also details the social value whg has created in 2024/25, worth an estimated £45 million. This includes supporting more than 1,000 customers through its H Factor health and wellbeing programme and helping 190 local people into jobs in the NHS through its Work4Health initiative.

Rob Gilham, Corporate Director of Strategy, Assets and Transformation, said: “These achievements are a real cause for celebration, but we know there is still so much more to do. Sustainability is not a side project, it’s part of everything we do at whg. While we are proud of the progress we’ve made, we are committed to going further and faster to deliver positive change for our customers, our communities and the planet.”
