Stourbridge Chess Club looking to 'strengthen squad' ahead of new season
On Tuesday, 19 August, Stourbridge Chess Club held its pre-season blitz tournament. It was an 11 round round-robin tournament with a time control of game in 5 minutes which is much too fast for some of the older players! The overall winner was Jeremy Fallowfield with a perfect 11 points. Dan Jones came second with 9 and Nic Fallowfield and Che Adams tied for 3rd with 8 points. It was a good fun event.
The club held its annual dinner on Thursday at the Bay Tree restaurant in Kinver.
Next Tuesday will be the final round of our Summer tournament. League chess starts on September 1. Stourbridge Chess Club has teams in the Birmingham league divisions 2 and 4, Wolverhampton league divisions 1 and 3 and the Dudley league division 3.
The club meets at The Queen’s Head pub Enville Street, at 7.30pm every Tuesday evening and is looking for new members to strengthen its squads for the new season.
