Staffordshire police officer takes on 'Everest' challenge for charity

A Staffordshire police officer is preparing to take on an extraordinary challenge in aid of two vital charities. Sergeant Dan Haughton will attempt to “Everest” Stafford Castle by repeatedly climbing its steep drive in full police uniform until he, with the help of colleagues and the community, has scaled the equivalent height of Mount Everest – 29,090ft. The gruelling event, known as The Long Blue Walk, will take place over two days on 20–21 September 2025.

Funds raised will go to the Childhood Cancer Parents Alliance, which supports families affected by childhood cancer, and Andy’s Man Club, a men’s suicide prevention charity that provides peer support groups across the UK, including in Staffordshire.

Dan hopes the event will not only raise money but also awareness of the causes, both of which he has seen the importance of first-hand through his police work.

“This isn’t just my challenge – it’s a community challenge,” he said. “Anyone can join in, even if it’s just walking the hill once. Every step counts.”

Supporters are encouraged to follow the event online, spread the word, donate, and even join in the climb. Donations can be made via the JustGiving page: justgiving.com/team/longbluewalk
