Jamie Bartlam has successfully completed the rigorous new qualification, which was developed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) — the world’s largest chartered membership body for health and safety professionals. The diploma is designed to equip future leaders with the strategic, technical, and leadership skills needed to drive improvements in workplace safety across industries.

This milestone not only marks a personal achievement for Jamie but also highlights the pivotal role Business Safety Systems is playing in preparing the next generation of health and safety professionals. The organisation is celebrating its 30th year and, as one of the first UK providers to deliver the IOSH Level 6 diploma, is helping to set new standards in professional training and development.

“We’re proud to be at the forefront of health and safety education in the UK,” said Kate Sault, Senior Health and Safety Consultant and Trainer at Business Safety Systems. “Jamie’s success is a testament to the quality of our training and the dedication of our learners. This qualification represents a new era in health and safety leadership, and we’re honoured to be part of that journey.”

The IOSH Level 6 diploma was introduced as part of IOSH’s strategic commitment to nurturing future leaders in occupational safety and health. It reflects the growing complexity of workplace environments and the need for professionals who can lead with confidence, competence, and a deep understanding of risk management and regulatory compliance.

Jamie Bartlam’s achievement is expected to inspire other aspiring professionals to pursue the Level 6 diploma and contribute to a safer, healthier working world. His journey also underscores the importance of accessible, high-quality training delivered by local providers who understand the needs of both learners and employers.

“The qualification is work-based so I’ve been able to examine how I’m providing health and safety advice and expertise to ensure it’s as good as it can be,” said Jamie, who is a Director at SchoolPro Safety, a Cheltenham-based business which provides safety solutions in the education sector. “The course has been really beneficial. Having the qualification means that when I go into a school, they know they are getting a certain quality of support.”

As industries continue to evolve and face new challenges — from technological change to mental health and wellbeing — Business Safety Systems remains committed to equipping professionals with the tools they need to lead effectively and protect workers across the UK.

Mike Smith, Head of Awarding Organisation at IOSH, said: “We’re delighted to see Jamie become the first UK graduate for our Level 6 Diploma. We hope he will be the first of many to benefit from this qualification as we seek to develop future occupational safety and health professionals, supported by our excellent study centres.”
