Leslie’s Care Packages marks nine years of community kindness
On August 24, Leslie’s Care Packages proudly celebrates nine years of compassionate outreach across the Black Country and surrounding areas.
Founded by Vi Wood in memory of her late father Leslie, the initiative began with a simple mission: to provide essentials and dignity to those facing hardship — one care package at a time.
Since its founding in 2016, Leslie’s Care Packages has supported thousands of individuals experiencing homelessness, elderly neighbours in need, individuals, and families navigating financial difficulty.
Each package contains vital items — from food and toiletries to warm clothing and seasonal treats — and is delivered with kindness, respect, and a message of solidarity.

“This work began as a tribute to my dad’s spirit,” says Vi Wood, founder and volunteer leader. “But over the years, it’s grown into a community-wide movement powered by generosity, friendship, and the belief that kindness changes lives.”
The initiative has been sustained by a network of volunteers, donors, and supporters who have contributed everything from supermarket vouchers and baby items to furniture and school uniforms.
Their efforts have helped ensure that no one is left behind — especially during times of crisis.

To mark the ninth anniversary, Leslie’s Care Packages is sharing a snapshot of its impact, including:
Food parcels and supermarket vouchers
Toiletries and hygiene essentials
Warm clothing and footwear
Festive care packs and birthday gifts
Bedding, sleeping bags, and furniture
Pet food for beloved companions
Baby items and household goods
Utility top-ups and travel support
School uniforms and formal wear for funerals
Support for those relocating from domestic abuse

“This milestone belongs to everyone who’s walked this path with us,” Vi adds. “Whether you’ve donated, volunteered, or simply shared our story — thank you. Your kindness has carried Leslie’s legacy into more hands, homes, and hearts than I ever imagined.”
As the initiative enters its tenth year, Leslie’s Care Packages is inviting new supporters to get involved. Donations, volunteer time, and awareness-raising all make a lasting difference.
