Celebrating student achievements on GCSE results day at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy

Year 11 students at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy on Kelvin Way are celebrating their GCSE results today, marking an important milestone in their education. Their results will open doors as they prepare to take their next steps – whether that’s A levels or vocational studies at sixth form, college, or starting an apprenticeship.

Families, staff and the wider school community have come together to recognise the hard work and ambition students have shown throughout their studies at the Academy.

This year, 61% of students achieved a Grade 4 or above in both Maths and English – the government’s benchmark for a pass – while 14% of students earned at least 5 top grades of 9 to 7, showcasing exceptional achievement.

Additionally, 93% of year 11 students completed at least 8 GCSE or equivalent qualifications, and 82% completed at least 9 GCSE or equivalent qualifications across a broad range of 25 subjects, reflecting the diverse opportunities available at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy.

Mary Henderson, Associate Principal at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy, said: “Congratulations to all our students today. Their achievements reflect the growth and progress they have made during their time at the Academy, supported every step of the way by our dedicated staff and wider school community.

“Today is a moment of celebration as they recognise their hard work and prepare to take the next important steps on their journey. We look forward with pride and excitement to all they will accomplish in the future.”

Performances were particularly strong in separate Science, Performance, Art and Design, English Literature, History and Home Languages, highlighting the strengths of this year’s cohort.

Sir Mark Grundy, CEO of Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, added: “Congratulations to all our year 11 students at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy. Today is a proud moment that reflects their hard work, ambition, and the bright potential they carry forward.

West Bromwich Collegiate Academy will also be hosting an Open Evening on Thursday 11 September, from 4.30pm for families wanting to learn more about joining in year 7 in September 2026. No need to book, just turn up.

GCSE qualifications are marked under a 9-1 grading system, with 9 being the highest grade. GCSEs are linear in structure rather than modular, with all exams taken at the end of a two-year course. BTEC qualifications are marked under a vocational grading system, distinction*-pass. This is broken down into two tiers of entry, level 1 or level 2, each with equivalence to GCSE grading. A level 2 distinction* is the highest grade achievable.
